Updated: Three Thirroul teams in Champion of Champions

The U16.1 team began Thirroul JFC's Champion of Champions campaign with a tough 2-1 loss to Central Coast League winners Kanwal FC at Pluim Park, Lisarow on Sunday, 18th September.

Thirroul JFC is proud to have three teams representing Football South Coast in the tournament this season, with the U17.1 and W21s teams yet to play their first matches.

The U16.1 team qualified for the Champion of Champions, which has been played since 1968, after finishing first in their competition and they also won the grand final against Unanderra.

The U17.1 team also completed the League and Grand Final double and will face Balmain and Districts FC from the Canterbury competition at 10.15am on Sunday, 25th September at Ian McLennan Oval, Kembla Grange.

The Thirroul W21 were nominated by FSC to play in the Champion of Champions and will take on Canterbury JFC in their first match on Sunday, 9th October at a time and venue to be determined.

The Champion of Champions is a knockout tournament with the winner progressing to the next round and the loser eliminated. The final is on 23rd October at FNSW's Valentine Park headquarters.

Thunder Division 2 and 4 teams in Community League grand finals

Thirroul's Division 2 and Division 4 Amateur teams will play the grand finals of their Community League competitions on Saturday at Ian McLennan Park.

The Thunder Division 2 team meet Sandon Point at 11.30am in what is a fitting finale to the season for two groups of players who have formed a close bond since the tragic passing of Antony Stott, while the Thunder Blue team play Vale Pups in the Division 4 decider at 9am.

Both teams qualified after winning their semi-finals last Saturday, with Division 2 beating Jamberoo Rovers 2-1 and Division 4 coming from 2-0 down to triumph 3-2 against Razorbacks.

The hopes of an all-Thirroul grand final in Division 3 were dashed when both teams were beaten by the narrowest margins in their semi-finals, with Gibson Park Rangers losing 2-1 to Albion Park City and Thunder White going down 1-0 to South Coast United Blue.

However, with the club's four Amateur teams making the finals, it has been a season for which all the players deserve to be congratulated after the difficult circumstances they have endured.

Best of luck to Thunder Division 2 and Thunder Blue in their grand finals on Saturday.

Summer 7s Sponsorship Opportunity

Thirroul JFC is seeking naming rights sponsors for the popular Junior and Senior Summer 7s competitions.

The Junior Summer 7s, featuring competitions for U6-7s, U8-9s, U10-11s, U12-13s and U14-15s, commences on Monday, 19th September and will be held on 13 Monday afternoons and evenings until 19th December.

The Senior Summer 7s will start in mid-October and comprises of two divisions of men's competitions and a mixed competition played each Wednesday, with the finals in late January.

We are also investigating whether it is possible to introduce a U16-18s competition on Wednesdays as part of the Senior Summer 7s.

This is a great opportunity for any business wanting to strengthen their relationship with the local community, and particularly families, as last year there were more than 750 registered players - 446 in the Junior Summer 7s and 309 in the Senior Summer 7s.

Similar numbers are expected for the upcoming competitions.

In addition to naming rights for the Summer 7s competition, Thirroul JFC can offer sponsors even greater exposure through the club's website and FaceBook pages, which currently have more than 1350 members.

Four grand final wins for Thirroul junior teams

Thirroul JFC completed a successful season for graded juniors with four teams winning grand finals on the weekend and the U16.2 team being runners-up.

The U17.1 and U16.1 teams both added Grand Champions medals to the ones they received for being League Champions at the end of the regular season, while the U12.3 and U14.2 teams also won their grand finals at Unanderra Oval.

It was a particularly impressive effort by the U14.2 team as they had finished fourth at the end of the regular season and had to back up from an extra time win in Kiama last Tuesday night to qualify for the grand final against the previously undefeated Albion Park on Saturday.

Lachlan Kay scored from long range in the first half and Noah Biddulph found the back of the net in the second half to clinch a well deserved victory for the team, which is coached by Marcus Aukland and Seamus Macken-Walsh, and managed by Toni Dobbs.

The 12.3 team had earlier in the day overcome Helensburgh 1-0 to secure a hard fought win after qualifying for the grand final from third place, via a penalty shoot-out against Balgownie the previous weekend and a 2-0 win over Dapto in the opening round of the finals series.

The U17.1 team concluded a great weekend of junior grand final action for the club when they hung on with 10 players for the final 12 minutes to beat Coledale 2-1 in extra time on Sunday.

Callum Oliver netted both of Thirroul's goals, scoring in the first half to put the side ahead 1-0 at the break and securing the win in extra time after Coledale had levelled to ensure a gripping finish to a game which was played in great spirit as many players had mates in the opposition.

The win was the culmination of four years of hard work by the boys with coach Craig Smith, manager Paul Thorndyke and trainer Darren Morgan.

Both Under 16s teams also improved on their performances in previous seasons, with the U16.1s winning a third consecutive grand final under the guidance of Michael Grew, Lawrie Baker and Ian Picton to claim both trophies for the first time.

The U16.1 team bounced back from a penalty shoot-out defeat to Unanderra in the opening weekend of the finals and extra-time win over South Coast United to qualify for the grand final with a 2-1 win over Unanderra in a high quality decider on Friday night.

The U16.2 team also played strongly but went down to Balgownie 3-1 in another hard fought game between these two sides which was played just three days after Thirroul had beaten Port Kembla in Kiama on Tuesday night to qualify for the grand final.

Congratulations to U16.2 coach Damian McGlinn, manager Jason Darcy and all of the players for their performance with the team this season, after falling short of a place in the finals last year.

Thirroul JFC would like to thank all coaches, managers, players and parents of the club's 17 graded junior teams and 27 Mini Roos teams for their time and effort this season and hope to see everyone back in 2017.

Thirroul U16.1 team complete hat trick of grand final wins

Thirroul JFC's U16.1 team won a third consecutive grand final after beating Unanderra 2-1 at Unanderra Oval on Friday night.

The U16.1 team, who have defeated Wollongong in the previous two grand finals, hung on to add the Grand Champions title to the League Champions title they won for the first time this season after leading Unanderra 2-0 at halftime.

Goal scorers for Thirroul were striker Damian Grew and left forward Jake Matiuscenko, while goalkeeper Blake Picton saved a first half penalty that swung momentum the way of his side after the skilful Unanderra side dominated early.

The win was a well deserved reward for the effort the players and coaching staff, comprising of Michael Grew, Lawrie Baker and Ian Picton, have put in over a long period of time to become the best team in their division.

Unfortunately, the 16.2 team was unable to overcome Balgownie in a hard fought grand final and lost 3-1.

The U12.3 team play Helensburgh in their grand final at 9.45am Saturday, while the U14.2 team meet Albion Park at 12.30pm Saturday, with both games being played at Unanderra Oval.

On Sunday, the U17.1 team will attempt to add the Grand Champions title to the League Champions one they have already won when they take on Coledale at Unanderra Oval at 8.30am.

Updated: Five Thirroul teams in junior grand finals

The U14.2 and U16.2 teams have advanced to the grand final with wins on Tuesday night at Kiama Sporting Complex.

The 14.2 team overcame Kiama 2-1 in extra time and will meet Albion Park in the grand final at 12.30pm Saturday at Unanderra Oval.

The 16-2 team won 4-1 against Port Kembla and will play Balgownie in the grand final at 8pm Friday.

They join the 12.3, U16.1 and U17.1 teams in qualifying for this weekend's junior grand finals, being played at Unanderra Oval.

The 16.1 team also play at 8pm Friday against Unanderra following their win in the preliminary final last Sunday after Henry Jenkins scored off a Cooper Grossman corner in extra time to secure a 2-1 win over South Coast United

The U12.3 team, pictured below, secured their grand final berth last Saturday after goalkeeper Tane Mathews-O'Brien saved all four Balgownie attempts during a penalty shoot-out, which was needed to break a 0-0 deadlock at the end of regular and extra time.

They now face Helensburgh in the grand final at 9.45am Saturday at Unanderra Oval.

The U17.1 team had already qualified for their grand final at Unanderra Oval on Sunday at 8.30am after winning the major semi-final the weekend before and will play the winner of Wednesday night's Balgownie-Coledale match.

Meanwhile, the Thunder Youth Grade and Reserve Grade will play semi-finals on Saturday but First Grade's season is over after a 1-0 extra time loss to Balgownie on Tuesday night.

The Thunder Youth Grade team play Wests in the minor semi-final at Wetherall Park, Primbee, while Reserve Grade meet Fernhill at Tarrawanna Oval for a place in the grand final at WIN Stadium on September 24.

The Community League finals series will now be played over two weekends after Saturday's semi-finals were cancelled, with the Thunder Division 2 team to play third placed Jamberoo Rovers at Judy Masters Oval, Balgownie at 12.15pm Saturday.

In Division 3, second-placed Gibson Park Rangers play Albion Park City and fourth-placed Thunder White take on league champions South Coast United Blue in a double-header at Ian McLennan Park from 12.15pm Saturday.

Thunder Blue play second-placed Razorbacks in their Division 4 semi-final at Beaton Park at 12.15pm Saturday.

All Thirroul teams make Community League finals

All four of Thirroul JFC's Community League teams have made the finals in a historic first for the club.

With the Thunder qualifying for all three grades of the District League finals, this means all seven of the club's senior men's teams will be playing beyond the regular season.

The Division 2 Thunder team, pictured, finished second in their Community League competition and will play Coasters FC in the major semi-final at King Mickey Park on Saturday at 2.45pm.

Gibson Park Rangers were also second in Division 3 and finished two points ahead of Thunder White, who claimed fourth spot due to head-to-head results in their matches against Puckamia Bay Dugongs Grey.

GPR play South Coast United at Ian McLennan Park at 2.45pm Saturday, while Thunder White face Albion Park FC at Albion Oval in an elimination semi-final at 2.4pm Saturday

Thunder Blue finished third in Division 4 and play Port Kembla Puma Masters at King George V Oval 2 in an elimination semi-final at 2.45pm Saturday.

Congratulations to the players and everyone involved with all four Community League teams for their success so far this season, and best of luck in the finals.

Thunder make finals in all three grades

For the second successive season, Thirroul Thunder has qualified for the finals in all three grades of the Football South Coast District League competition.

First Grade finished fourth and will play Balgownie at 2.30pm on Saturday at Memorial Park, Corrimal in an elimination semi-final.

Youth Grade also play at Memorial Park, Corrimal on Saturday, kicking off at 10am, in an elimination semi-final against Warilla.

Reserve Grade (pictured) have the weekend off after being crowned League Champions following a season in which they were undefeated in 21 matches until last Saturday's final round loss to Wests.

Updated: Thirroul junior Ashley Dribbus scores again for Mini Matildas

Thirroul junior Ashley Dribbus has scored a second goal for Australia as the Mini Matildas maintained their unbeaten record in the AFC Women's Under 16s qualifying tournament with an 8-0 win over Iraq.

Ashley, who made her international debut in the opening match of the tournament, scored from left back in the 36th minute of the match at the Vietnam Youth Training Centre in Hanoi on Monday.

She had already scored for Australia after finding the back of the net in the 54th minute of her debut for the Mini Matildas as they thrashed Palestine 28-0 last Thursday.

The 15-year-old, who made six first grade appearances for the Stingrays in this season's NWPL NSW competition but still trains regularly with her former team-mates in the Thirroul JFC U16.1 team, started at left back against Palestine before moving to right back, from where she scored her first goal in Australian colours.

Ash was one of nine Australian goal scorers in the match, which was played in 38 degree temperatures, with midfielder Courtney Nevin finishing with a stunning nine goal haul and Sofial Sakilis coming off the bench to score five second half goals.

Mini Matildas coach Ante Juric chose an almost completely different side for the second match against Hong Kong, which Australia won 14-0, and rested Ashley before recalling her for the game against Iraq.

Australia's next match is against Vietnam on Thursday and they play Uzbekistan in their final pool match on Saturday.

The AFC Under-16s Championship qualifiers mark the start of the elite women's football pathway and the first steps for young female players who aspire to play for the Matildas.

The tournament also serves as the qualifiers for the AFC U16 Women's Championship, which will be played in China in September, 2017.

The top three nations from the AFC Championships will progress to the 2018 FIFA U17 World Cup in Uruguay.
