Match Report

The long wait for Women’s football finally came to an end as we saw round two of the Julie Porter Cup at Ian McLennan Park on Sunday afternoon.

This year’s Cup features all the Women’s Division 1 teams, including, Albion Park White Eagles, Bulli FC, Kiama Quarriers, Shellharbour Scorpions, Thirroul Thunderbirds, Warilla Wanderers, Woonona Sharks and University FC.

Woonona Sharks 2 (Wheatley 20’, Woods 84’) Thirroul Thunderbirds 0

The Woonona Sharks secured their first win for the year defeating the Thirroul Thunderbirds 2-0 in round two of the Julie Porter Cup.

Jordan Wheatley opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a neatly placed goal for the Sharks.

The Thunderbirds had a flood of chances in the last 15 minutes of the match, but with a series of injuries for the Thirroul side, it was Woonona that would go into the break with a 1-0 lead.

A well-experienced Nikita Woods added to the Sharks lead, scoring her first goal for the year in the 84thminute.

Woonona took home their first win for the Julie Porter Cup against a well-structured Thirroul Thunderbirds team.
