Heal Country! Thirroul JFC acknowledges 2021 NAIDOC Week
Brad Walter
Thirroul JFC acknowledges NAIDOC Week, which is being celebrated across Australia in recognition of the rich history, diverse cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the oldest continuing culture on the planet.
NAIDOC Week is celebrated not only by our First Nations People, but by Australians from all walks of life.
Last year our Thunderbirds teams took part in NAIDOC celebrations and played in specially designed Indigenous shirts, which they hope to do again when the competition resumes.
The theme of NAIDOC 2021 is HEAL COUNTRY!
Heal Country, heal our nation.
"Country is inherent to our identity.
It sustains our lives in every aspect - spiritually, physically, emotionally, socially, and culturally.
It is more than a place.
When we talk about Country it is spoken of like a person.
Country is family, kin, law, lore, ceremony, traditions, and language. For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples it has been this way since the dawn of time.
Through our languages and songs, we speak to Country; through our ceremonies and traditions we sing to - and celebrate Country – and Country speak to us."
Thirroul JFC acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of the land where our games are played, where our teams train and where our community is located.
We recognise all the Aboriginal nations who have a continuing connection to this country, sea, land and community.
We pay our respects to Elders, past, present and emerging.
