Under 18s trial postponed

Brad Walter

Please be advised that the Under 18s trial scheduled for Sunday, October 30, has been postponed to a later date.

This decision was made because of Thirroul JFC's unique position as the only Football South Coast club whose junior and senior teams are part of the same organisation.

At other clubs, Under 18s Division 1 teams are aligned to a senior club and all other age teams, including Under 18 Division 2 teams, are operated by a seperate junior club.

Thirroul JFC WILL field a team in the U18s Division 1 competition and has officially advised Football South Coast of the club's intentions for next season.

The club also expects to enter teams in the Under 18s Division 2 and Under 17s competitions.

Thirroul JFC views these teams as a pathway to the Thunder and is in the process of appointing an Under 18s Division 1 coach who will work closely with Youth Grade coach John Cropper.

As demonstrated by John's appointment to the role of Mentor: Coaching and Development in 2016, Thirroul JFC is committed to the development of young players within our club by providing them with quality coaching.

Unlike other clubs who are currently conducting trials, Thirroul JFC will have players sign up at Football South Coast's junior registration in the new year who may be worthy of consideration for our U18s Division 1 team.

This includes players from this year's U18.2, U17.1, U16.1 and U16.2 teams, who may not yet have decided what they are doing next season.

The success of the U17.1 and Under 16s teams this season suggests Thirroul JFC has a strong group of players in these age groups and the club wants to field the strongest possible team in the Under 18s Division 1 competition.

Players and parents should also be aware that NO club can register players before January 1 so this means it is impossible to finalise an U18s squad before then with any certainty.

Thirroul JFC will announce a kick around in coming weeks for players interested in playing Youth Grade next season and anyone wanting to be considered for the U18.1 team in 2017 will also be invited to attend.

The club is grateful for the understanding of those players who had registered for the trial, including those from other clubs, and hopes they will attend the kick around. A further announcement will be made once details of the kick around are confirmed.
